New Leaders’ Orientation Workshop

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 17, 2020 (ZIZ News): Newly appointed principals and deputy-principals gathered at the Immaculate Conception School Auditorium on Monday to participate in the New Leaders’ Orientation workshop hosted by the Ministry of Education.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, William Hodge said that being the head of an institution is critical to the functioning of the education system.

“Heads of institutions are key because you are out in the field, you have responsibility for other adults and children who would work at your institutions or would have attend your institutions as students.” He said.

Throughout the workshop, a number of presentations that dealt with aspects of leading an institution were made from members of the Ministry of Education.

Chief Education officer, Dr. Debbie Isaac spoke of what her presentation entailed.

“My presentation will be about responsibilities, protocols that you would have to observe and more or less job description – what you’ll be doing as principal, as a vice-principal or head teacher as the case may be.”

She said training such as these help leaders of institutions become aware and prepared to tackle issues that may arise because they would be relied upon to provide answers.

The workshop was held under the theme “Quality Leadership”.
