NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (JANUARY 28, 2013) — The Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) – led Nevis Island Administration (NIA) was sworn into office at an Inauguration and Service of Thanksgiving at the Elquemedo T. Willett Park on Saturday January 26, 2013. The new members of Government were sworn in by Resident Judge Justice John Benjamin and their Instruments of office were signed by Governor General His Honour Edmund Lawrence.

Premier Hon. Vance Amory took the Oath of Office after he had received his Instruments of Office signed by Deputy Governor General His Honour Eustace John. He had also taken his Oaths of Allegiance and Secrecy at the High Court before Resident Judge Justice John Benjamin at the High Court in Charlestown on January 23, 2013.

For the next five years, Mr. Amory’s portfolio will encompass the Office of the Premier, Finance, Statistics, Economic Planning, Education, Library Services, Human Resources, Telecommunications, Information and Trade Industry and Consumer Affairs

Hon. Mark Brantley who was sworn in as Deputy Premier will be a Minister of the Nevis Island Administration with special responsibility for Tourism, Health, Gender, Social Affairs, Social Development, Youths, Sports, Community Development and Culture.

Hon. Alexis Jeffers will be a Minister of the Nevis Island Administration with responsibility for Communications, Works and Public Utilities, Posts, Physical Planning, Natural resources, Environment, Agriculture, Lands, Housing and Cooperatives and Fisheries.

Two Junior Ministers also took their oaths Hon. Hazel Brandy-Williams and Hon. Troy Liburd. Mrs Brandy-Williams will be charged with special responsibilities under the Deputy Premier Brantley while Mr. Liburd will be charged with special responsibilities under Mr. Jeffers.

Hon. Hazel Brandy-Williams Junior Minister in the Ministry of Gender, Social Affairs, Social Development, Youths and Sports Affairs, Community Affairs, Import and Export Control and Licensing Unit.

Hon. Troy Liburd Junior Minister in the Ministry of Communications, Works and Public Utilities, Posts, Physical Planning, Natural Resources and Environment of the Nevis Island Administration with special responsibility for Public Utilities, Public Works, Posts, Physical Planning, Food Water Control and Environment with special responsibility for Works and Public Utilities, Posts, Physical Planning, Food Water Control and Environment.

The ceremony was attended by hundreds of supporters, well wishers and dignitaries among them, Deputy Prime Minister in the Federal Government Hon. Sam Condor, Commissioner of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force Mr. Celvin Walwyn and members of the Diplomatic Core.

The function’s programme included an invocation delivered by Pastor Eversley Pemberton while the scripture readings were done by Mrs. Yvonne Guishard and Cabinet Member Mr. Stedmond Tross. The exhortation was made by Reverend Dennis Baptiste and the Benediction was delivered by Cannon Ernest Flemming. The ceremony was dotted with hymns of praise and thanksgiving and Premier Amory also delivered brief remarks.
