New Parade Starting Point

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 26, 2019 (ZIZ News): Carnival troupes, winners from various shows, individual mas players, folklore groups and bands competing for this year’s road march title will have a new starting point for this year’s Carnival Grand Parade.

That is according to the Chairman of the St. Kitts –Nevis National Carnival Committee, Noah Mills.

The Carnival Committee Chairman said that in previous years the parade would have started at Wigley Ave but this route has had a number of issues.

This year the starting point is at the roundabout along the FT Williams Highway just north of Caribbean Cinemas. Participants will travel east along the highway then turn right into Fries Village and left along Cayon Street before taking the usual route through Basseterre.

Mr. Mills explained that the change of the starting point will provide better logistical management of the troupes as well as marketing benefits. He said the judges will also have the chance to properly asses the costumes.

He also made mention of changes to the judging points for the troupes. The judging points this year will start at the FT Williams Highway between the roundabouts at Buckley’s and near Fries Village, the second judging point will be near the old Ministry of Education building on Cayon street and the final judging point will be on the Bay Road by the old Treasury building.

Mills said that there will be several public service announcements during the rest of November through to December notifying the public of road changes.
