Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) — The Government and People of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis have congratulated St. Maarten’s new Prime Minister the Hon. Marcel Gumbs.
In his congratulatory message, the St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas noted that the Island Country St. Maarten and its people and the people of St. Kitts and Nevis have had longstanding strong and friendly relations.
“The historical, commercial and even filial bonds between our two countries have been strengthened further by the contributions of the sizeable portion of the Diaspora of St. Kitts and Nevis who presently live and work there,” Prime Minister Douglas told Mr. Gumbs.
He added that in the spirit of fraternity and on behalf of the Government and the people of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, “heartfelt congratulations to you upon your assumption of the role of Prime Minister in the new Government of St. Maarten and offer best wishes to your entire Cabinet as you work to fulfill the aspirations and expectations of the people of St. Maarten.”
“In your efforts to steer the ship of state through the turbulent waters of the current global environment, I wish to affirm that St. Kitts and Nevis continues to extend a hand of friendship and cooperation and stand ready to assist wherever possible in your country’s endeavor to become more integrated with the islands of the English-speaking Caribbean,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
He wished the St. Maarten Prime Minister “fortitude and wisdom during your period in office.”
