New York school district helping St. Kitts and Nevis to develop music programme

Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) — A school district in New York is involved in a St. Kitts and Nevis Music Project with the objective to develop a comprehensive music programme for youths at risk.

Music teachers from the Oneida City School District in Hamilton, New York, recently collected music instruments, instructional materials and supplies for the donation.

“This is a wonderful project, and we’re glad to be able to help,” said Margie Hawthorne, Director of Music and President of the Madison County Music Educators’ Association.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Music Project aims to develop a comprehensive music program for at risk youth in the Caribbean nation.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Music Project, initiated in coordination with the St. Kitts Ministry of Culture and the island based non-profit organization Operation Future, helps to provide a critical, creative alternative for young people.

“We are extremely grateful to the Oneida City School District teachers for this thoughtful gift,” said project coordinator Chuck Fox. “These instruments and supplies will have a big impact.”
