Newton Ground Primary Anniversary Banquet
Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 23, 2019 (ZIZ News): Ministry of Education officials, Principal and staff of the Newton Ground Primary School gathered at the Marriot Resort on Saturday to celebrate the school’s 60th Anniversary.
The school first opened its doors on January 14th, 1959 and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, William Hodge who spoke on behalf of Minister of Education, Hon. Shawn Richards said that since then the Newton Ground Primary has been providing students with “sound education”.
Parliamentary Representative for Constituency number 6 Rt. Hon. Denzil Douglas spoke about the development of the education system at the time and credited the school’s capability to transition and develop to their leadership.
During the ceremony persons were treated to song and dance items and 8 of the school’s former principals were honoured.
The Newton Ground Primary School’s first principal was Mr. Stanley Amory. It started with a staff of 7 teachers and approximately 90 students. Since then, there have been thirteen Principals two of whom were from the Newton Ground Community.
