NIA’s Social Programmes Ahead of Others in the Region, Social Development Says Minister

Minister responsible for social development on Nevis, Hon. Eric Evelyn says he believes the social programmes implemented by the Nevis government are ahead of others in the region.

Mr. Evelyn was at the time speaking at the 3rd session of the Regional conference on population and development in Latin America and the Caribbean in Lima, Peru from August 7 to 9.

The conference was held to examine the first regional draft report on the implementation of the Montevideo consensus on population and development and other regional issues.

Mr. Evelyn said that the report presented from Nevis highlighted the programmes instituted by the NIA in the thematic areas.

He said following his presentation of the report, he received Positive feedback from Dr. Natalia Kanem, executive director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and others at the conference.

The conference was organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the government of Peru with support from and UNFPA.
