Nine named for 2015 National Awards

(ZIZ News) — Nine persons have been named to receive the country’s 2015 national awards.

The Star of Merit was awarded to Washington Archibald in the field of Education; Richard Caines in Business and Marjorie Morton for her contribution to public service.

The Medal of Honour was awarded to Sylvia Garnett for her contribution to nursing and healthcare; Ivan Hanley for his work in law enforcement; Theodore Hobson QC for his contribution to the field of Law, Winston Skeete in Sea Transport, Maurice Widdowson for conservation and heritage and James Hanley in the field of sports.

In congratulating the awardees, Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris said, “Let their spirit of enterprise; let their spirit of achievement and commitment inspire us to do likewise and in our several capacities as fellow citizens and residents, we must do our part in nation building.”

Governor General, His Excellency S.W. Tapley Seaton CVO, DC, JP, in accordance with the advice of the Prime Minister and with the recommendation of the National Awards Committee, approved this year’s recipients.
