No disruption to shipping

Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 17, 2020 (ZIZ News): The Acting Comptroller Of Customs Kennedy DeSilva has assured that there has been no disruption to shipping schedules due to the Coronavirus outbreak in the United States.

In an interview with ZIZ on Tuesday, Mr De Silva said the rumours being circulated about shipments being cancelled are false and all imports of food and other products are following normal schedules.

There is no change that we are aware of. All imports appear normal,” he said. “We’ve also had discussions because I’m actually on the committee that deals with the Coronavirus, and one of the issues that we have, eve on the weekend…we were talkn about freight security…and we were informed that nothing has changed to date. So the rumours that have been gong wild, I don’t know what they are based upon but from all indications everything should be normal.”

He said as part of the Customs And Excise Department’s efforts to spread accurate information they will develop a website, in collaboration with the Ministry Of Health to inform staff and keep the public updated.
