Over 250K in Cash and Prizes for Sugar Mas’ Participants

Basseterre, St Kitts – The National Carnival Committee celebrates all participants of Sugar Mas’ 2010 during the annual Prize Giving and Closing ceremony on Saturday January 29 at Bank Street. The weekend activity would kick off at 4pm with a jam through the streets of Basseterre with Small Axe, adjudged the Sweetest Band on the road for the just concluded Carnival.

Participants would share in over EC $250,000.00 in cash and prizes to be distributed on stage as part of the official ceremony commencing at 6.30pm. Cash prizes include 15K-LIME Calypso Monarch, 12K- National Carnival Queen, and 10K each for Beaumont Park Soca Monarch and Roadmarch. Other winners to be awarded are Female Calypso Queen, Best of the Rest, Contec DT Teenage Pageant and Junior Calypso as well as Street Activities.

The evening’s activities would be punctuated with headline performances by the reigning LIME Calypso Monarch, King Pungwa, Beaumont Park Soca Monarch, Konris and other Sugar Mas’ winners. Minister with responsible for Carnival Ms. Marcella Liburd would address the gathering briefly following a 5 minute Sugar Mas’ recap by Chairman Clemet Ogarro.

With the success of Sugar Mas’ 2010, and the pending 40th Anniversary celebrations, the logo for Sugar Mas’ 2011 would be revealed live as well as online at the Carnival’s FaceBook Fan Page. This unveiling would signal the start of planning for the celebrations to be held from December 16, 2011 to January 3, 2012.

Winners from Sugar Mas’ 2010 are gearing up to compete in several regional competitions starting with Konris, who would perform at the International Soca Monarch semi-finals in Trinidad on February 13, 2011. Reigning Carnival Queen Iantavian Queely is also slated to compete in Miss Carival in St Vincent and the Jaycees Caribbean Queen show in Antigua. King Pungwa and reigning two-peat king, Konris would compete in Anguilla for the Leeward Islands Calypso Competition. The reigning Talented Teen winner would try to keep the Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen in the Federation on December 30, 2011.
