Over 80 students received financial assistance at Prime Minister Harris’ annual help a Child Programme Awards Ceremony

More than 80 primary school students received financial assistance at the 15th annual Help-a-Child program primary school scholarship award ceremony on Wednesday October 17.

The ceremony was held under the distinguished patronage of Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.

During the ceremony Prime Minister Harris presented EC $500.00 each to primary school students from his constituency St. Christopher 7 – Belle Vue to Ottley’s.

The $42,500.00 in bursaries brings the total amount awarded to date under the Help-a-Child program to $294 thousand dollars.

Last year the programme sponsored 68 children and will bring the total number of awardees overall this year to 588.

The programme began in 2004 with 24 children. Six from each of the primary schools in the constituency, namely Edgar T. Morris in Tabernacle, Estridge in Mansion, Joshua Obadiah Williams in Molineux, and Violet Petty in Lodge.

This year students from the Cotton Thomas Comprehensive School and a few children living in constituency seven but attend primary schools elsewhere were also awarded.

The annual Help-a-Child programme awards ceremony was held at the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Bourryeau.
