Pam to Elect New Leader

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 1, 2012 — The People’s Action Movement has set a date for the election to replace outgoing leader Lindsay Grant. Grant resigned as party leader in July after 12 years of leading the party.

The date set for the election is Sunday September 23.

The party will follow on Sunday September 30, with a special party convention where the leader will be ratified and the new leader officially announced and presented to the world.

Four names have been circulated as possible candidates for the PAM leadership namely Constance Mitcham, deputy chairperson Jonel Powell and parliamentarians Hon. Eugene Hamilton and Hon. Shawn K. Richards.

According to an online article Mitcham and Powell have both publicly declared that they have no interest in the leadership while Hamilton and Richards have confirmed their interest.

According to inside party sources both Hamilton and Richards have already actively begun their respective internal party campaign for the leadership position.
