Parade concludes low-keyed Green Valley Festival

ZIZ News…May 2, 2013 — The Green Valley Community Festival wrapped up on Monday with its grand parade through the streets of Cayon.

Revellers got a chance to get a final bit of excitement in a festival that had a few hiccups along the way.

Cayon residents look forward to their community festival every year, but this time many were disappointed.

The normally packed calendar had to take some sharp cuts due to a number of circumstances.

Chairman of the Green Valley organizing committee Douglas Wattley told ZIZ News that financial problems led them to cancel the Queen Pageant and the Calypso Show.

Wattley says the shooting death of Jermaine Dore led the police to cancel the J’ouvert Jam and Last Lap.

He says despite the cutbacks the residents are determined to enjoy themselves even though their festival was limited to one big event and he predicts that next year they will be on track to bring back the festival in its full glory.
