Parliament and Social Networks must not be abused

Mr. Terry Adams

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MAY 12TH 2011 (CUOPM) – The National Assembly of St. Kitts and Nevis must never be abused by anyone, St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said Tuesday,

He is of the view however that there are times when it becomes critically important for the lawmaking body to be used to respond to critically important issues especially when those issues emanate from debate in the Nationally Assembly.

Responding to a call from Mr. Terry Adams on his weekly radio call-in programme on Tuesday, Prime Minister Douglas pointed out that he (Prime Minister) is not a member of the St. Kitts-Nevis Chat List on which Mr. Adams had used the social network “to bring disaffection and deliberate misleading information pertaining on me and statements that I had made from a debate that started in the Parliament and was taken over on the political platform.”

“The Parliament must not be used to abuse anyone or to abuse any privilege nor must any Chat List be used to abuse anyone under the anonymity that one does not know who is in fact sending that information,” said Prime Minister Douglas, pointing out that in the case under discussion, he Mr. Terry Adams had identified himself as the sender of the false and malicious statement.

“It is important for one to remember that what one does not want to take, one must not give to anybody else,” said Dr. Douglas.
