Parliamentarians Debate Bills, National Assembly Convened on Tuesday

(ZIZ News) – The National Assembly of St. Kitts and Nevis convened on Tuesday at Government Headquarters.

Speaking first, the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Shawn Richards, gave an update on the Basseterre High School.

Hon. Ian Liburd, Minister of Public Infrastructure, Posts, Urban Development and Transport also addressed the House, giving an update on the country’s water supply. He added that the government intends to address the high cost of electricity in the federation.

The first bill read was the Shiloh Baptist Church Nevis Incorporated Bill, which was introduced by Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs, Hon. Vance Amory.

For debate, the Banking Bill, 2015 was then introduced by the Honourable Dr. Timothy Harris, Prime Minister and Minister responsible for Finance, Sustainable Development, National Security, People Empowerment and Constituency Empowerment.

The second bill, the Saint Christopher and Nevis Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2015 was also introduced by Prime Minister Harris.

The Public Business Bill was also scheduled to be read a second time.
