Phillips Outfoxed By Unity In Constituency Number Seven Domino League

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, September 14, 2020 (MMS-SKN) — A classic case of a team snatching defeat from the jaws of victory was witnessed, in total disbelief, early Sunday evening September 13 when Phillips Domino Club squandered a golden chance of extending their lead in the ongoing 25th edition of Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League.

When the sixth segment of the league’s second round opened, Phillips Domino Club were leading in points standing albeit by a single point and they were to face the second placed and former champions Unity Domino Club in a game played at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux.

The youthful Phillips players went into the offensive right from the word go by taking the first game from table two. Unity equalised from table one, and quickly moved up by grabbing another game from table two to temporarily lead Phillips by 2-1.

At that point Phillips upped their game and won games at will, twice attaining 100 points before Unity could win a single point in a game which would earn them a bonus game. Veiled premature celebrations appeared to have kicked in when they had the game at 11-2 as no one would have thought that Unity would recover from that deficit.

Unity players however did it by scoring game after game including winning a bonus game and were trailing 7-11, when Phillips won another game to make it 12-7 in their favour, but which painfully proved to be their last, as Unity went on to win the rest of the games including a bonus game to bring it home at 13-12 at 6:39 pm. With that hard fought win, the former champions are now at the top of points standing followed by Phillips.

Former champions Lodge Domino Club lost a point to the bottom of the points standing Guinness Domino Club who they beat 13-10 in a game played at Cuban Bar in Lodge Project.

Top title contenders Tabernacle Domino Club increased their chances by beating Christchurch Domino Club 13-11 in a game played at the Tabernacle Police grounds, while Saddlers Domino Club crushed Mansion Domino Club 13-3 at the same venue.

In other games, defending champions Parsons Domino Club beat Giants Domino Club 13-8 in their game at the Lodge Community Centre, and at the same venue Sylvers Domino Club edged Unstoppable Domino Club 13-12; while Molineux Domino Club continued their recently regained winning form by beating Small Corner Bar Domino Club 13-5 in a game played at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux.

Points standing at the end of the sixth segment: Unity, 85 points; Phillips, 82 points; Tabernacle, 80 points; Lodge, 75 points; Christchurch, 69 points; Saddlers, 68 points; Unstoppable, 65 points; Mansion, 63 points; Parsons, 62 points; Small Corner Bar, 44 points; Sylvers, 32 points; Molineux, 29 points; Giants, 28 points; and Guinness, 20 points.

Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League which is the longest running such league in the Federation, is sponsored by Prime Minister and Area Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.
