PM Douglas, Ambassador Henry-Martin to grace Sandy Point Benefit Gala in New York

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, AUGUST 30TH 2012 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas joins Sandy Pointers and other nationals this weekend for the Benefit Gala organised by the Sandy Point Benevolent Society.

The gala, under the distinguished patronage of the St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister is regarded as a classy and high energy affair that ensures that the students of Sandy Point and its environs are better equipped to face their academic challenges during the upcoming school year and beyond.

Organisers say the importance of this event will be appreciated by every guest who attends, as the Prime Minister will be joined by St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States (OAS), Her Excellency Mrs. Jacinth Henry-Martin and Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher 5, the Hon. Shawn Richards.

This year’s Gala will feature as its special guest speaker, Dr. Simon B. Jones-Hendrickson, an Economics Professor, at the University of the Virgin Islands, writer and former St. Kitts and Nevis Ambassador to the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, CARICOM and the Association of Eastern Caribbean States.

The Society is this year is honouring Dr. Joseph Halliday, past Principal of the Charles E. Mills Secondary School, formerly the Sandy Point High School and Dr. Hannah Guishard, Veterinarian and distinguished alumna of Sandy Point High School.

“Bringing together such an esteemed group of guests, is certainly no small feat and qualifies this occasion as the “must attend event of 2012,” the organisers say.

The Benefit Gala takes place on Saturday September 1, 2012 from 8 pm to 2 am, at Maestro’s, 1703 Bronxdale Avenue, Bronx, New York, 10462.

The Sandy Point Benevolent Society is an entity of patriotic visionaries, who understand that others paved the way for them and that their civic duty is to use their creative juices to do likewise for our current crop of promising students. Their work for their community is in effect their commitment to uphold the needs of the youth of the Federation of St. Kitts & Nevis above themselves.
