ST. KITTS, JANUARY 24TH 2011 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is in Grenada chairing a meeting of Eastern Caribbean Heads of Government.
The two-day retreat on the privately-owned Calivigny Island comes days after the official start of their economic union.
The Prime Ministers, Premier and Chief Ministers are discussing matters related to the operationalisation of the OECS Economic Union especially rules of procedure, free movement, update on the EU financing and the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.
Heads will also discuss the OECS Secretariat Manpower and Workforce Plan, review the resources deployed in representational activities at the regional and nationals levels and OECS Regional Security matters.
The union treaty commits member states to common policies in a wide number of areas and to free movement of citizens and goods across their borders.
The next step is to give the treaty force of law through an Act of Parliament in individual nations.
