PM Douglas gives assurance PEP programme will continue

Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) — The People Employment Programme (PEP) contributed substantially to the stimulation of the economy over the past year.

Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said the PEP is also helping to prepare the Federation’s young people to take advantage of the many income-earning and wealth creation opportunities that are being created in the St. Kitts and Nevis economy by the very innovative and far-sighted economic policies of the Government.

“It was with a great sense of pride and accomplishment that I observe many of them visit our shops and places of entertainment with the confidence that comes from having their own well-earned cash and the associated buying power,” added Prime Minister Douglas.

He gave the assurance that his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government will not abandon the young people.

“We intend to keep them in the programme until they can find other sources of income as our economy continues to expand and create new employment and entrepreneurial opportunities,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
