PM Douglas lauds Sports Minister Phillip for CPL
Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) – The Federation’s Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has lauded his cabinet colleague and Minister of Sports, the Hon. Glen Phillip for the successes to date of the Limacol Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
“Over the past several months, my Cabinet Colleagues and I have watched and listened as his plans and expectations regarding infrastructural improvements at Warner Park, and CPL coming to the Federation, went from explanations, and graphs, and drawings, to live, vibrant, and undeniable reality. Bringing this about involved an extraordinary amount of work, but Minister Phillip was single-minded as he put one piece after another in place, in order to ensure that this major sporting event, with all the spinoff benefits in terms of business opportunities, employment opportunities, new revenue streams, and sheer public enjoyment became a reality,” said Prime Minister Douglas during his weekly radio programme “Ask the Prime Minister.”
Dr. Douglas said he has watched the matches on television and also in person at St. Kitts’ Warner Park Stadium.
“As I walk through the crowds at the park, and even as I move elsewhere throughout the Federation, it is clear that everyone is saying ‘Well done.’ And so I thank and commend the many Nationals, in all of the varying fields, roles, and specializations, whose combined input and contributions also made CPL St. Kitts and Nevis possible,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who invited the public to witness the games – the semi-finals on Wednesday and Thursday and the finals on Saturday.
He hailed Tuesday night’s fun-oriented celebrity match, the proceeds of that match benefited Special Education and disabled persons in the Federation, and that disabled persons.
