Douglas has told Venezuelan President His Excellency Hugo Chavez that Sunday’s re-election for a third consecutive six-year term “bears stark evidence of the Bolivarian people in your leadership capabilities as well as in your ideologies destined to propel your country and your people on the path to greater social investments and economic prosperity.”

“The Federation of St Kitts and Nevis and the Bolivarian Republic have long enjoyed very close ties and I am confident that this tenure commencing in early 2013, will buttress even further the strong bonds of friendship and fraternity between our countries,” said Prime Minister Douglas in a congratulatory message.

Dr. Douglas said that PETROCARIBE initiative, “your brainchild and the hallmark of your benevolent outreach to the region continues to prove valuable to the economic development of our country and for which, we are very deeply appreciative.”

“You have been granted another six years to forge ahead with the social welfare programmes aimed at safeguarding the interests of the most vulnerable in the society and from which tangible results are anticipated,” said the St. Kitts and Nevis leader.
