PM: Ongoing work not Election Gimmicks

PMDouglasMonthlyPressConferenceMay2014BZIZ News — Prime Minister, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas has refuted claims that recent ongoing upgrades by the government are election gimmicks.

Speaking with members of the media on Wednesday, the Prime Minister said the government’s track record speaks for itself and they have been working for the people for nearly two decades.

“We’re not just simply doing things because an election is expected. We have been doing things for nineteen years. That is why the slogan that has been coined is so appropriate. “We working!” We have been working for 19 years.”

He added that through their hard work and a people-centred leadership, the government is committed to its mandate to improve the quality of life for all residents of St. Kitts-Nevis.

He said, “We want to change the country. We want to move people through the various social strata. A guy must feel comfortable to know that if I have passed my 9 and 8 CXC, I will go on; go on to be what I want to be. That’s what we’re doing and we’re working to ensure that that young man, that bright young girl can achieve her own potential in life irrespective of where she has come from.”

The Prime Minister cited numerous infrastructural projects, particularly the road repair work, as examples of the government’s commitment to the enhancement of the nation and the way of life of the people.
