(ZIZ News) — St. Kitts and Nevis’ holding the top spot in several areas in the O.E.C.S. and CARICOM has not happened by chance.
This is the message that Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, impressed upon listeners to his radio programme on Tuesday.
Dr. Douglas said the Federation’s present status was arrived at through careful planning, hard work and visionary leadership.
“It is human nature to assume that whatever we have gotten used to has always been that way. That is not so where our blessed country is concerned. Not so at all,” he said adding that “It is human nature to assume that because we have something today we will have it tomorrow and forever…but not so where our beautiful St. Kitts and Nevis is concerned at all. Everything that we have in St. Kitts and Nevis today, every positive thing that we see around us, everything outstanding as an accomplishment that set us apart from our Caribbean neighbours and the rest of the world, is as a result of special vision, special focus, special skill, special expertise and of course special capabilities.”
The Prime Minister said while political leaders often have the best intentions many, sadly, do not possess the ability to do the job.
“If it were that easy, if it were something that every other educated person could accomplish, every other Caribbean nation would have achieved what we have. Every other country beyond the Caribbean would have accomplished what we have. But in all humility and sincere respect, we know that they have not been able to do and there is a reason why this is so. Everybody wants to do well and win but it’s not every student or sports team that has the same natural abilities, ot every student or team has the same capacity for hard, unrelenting work, And not every student or sports team has the mental and strategic quickness and flexibility to change and adapt as circumstances change in order to avoid disaster,” he explained.
He cautioned voters to choose wisely on Election Day and not put the continued progress and future of the Federation into the wrong hands.
Dr. Douglas added that his Administration had a proven track record with men and women who have capably and competently delivered for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
“Everyone of course can promise. Few can deliver, and no team has ever delivered like this St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government,” he said.
“Indeed, I assert that it is because this Labour Government has worked so hard and so well. It is because this Labour Government has produced so much that will, for generations, redound to the benefit of the people of this country. It is because the positive consequences of this government’s work are pouring in and will continue to pour in for years to come that there are now those who are so eager to pounce and lay claim to all that we have accomplished,” he added.
