Police commend revelers for incident free Culturama

(RSCNPF): Commander of the Nevis Division of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Superintendent Trevor Mills reported to the High Command that the recently completed “Culturama 42” celebrations was free of any major incident.

Superintendent Mills noted, that reports from the respective stations indicated that no major incidents were reported during the activities held at the Cultural Complex and other event locations or during J’ouvert and parade activities. “Culturama 42″ was held from July 21- August 2 and climaxed over the holiday weekend.

“I think our presence at the ferry terminals and the sea bridge landings both in St. Kitts and Nevis sent a clear message that we were out and about, and maintaining citizen safety was our objective,” said the Supt. Mills. He added, “we had presence at all the events….on the J’ouvert route and that sent a clear message… The crowd was large, and the revelers enjoyed themselves.”

Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian M. Queeley who was on the ground in Nevis, commended the revelers for their behaviour and cooperation. He said, “I know, the stop and searches at the ferry terminals may have been inconvenient for you, but they were done to ensure your safety, we appreciate your embrace of the message to stay safe and have fun”.

Commissioner Queeley expressed satisfaction with the work of the security forces (Police and Defence Force) and the partnering agencies and told the officers that being out and about was a contributing factor to an incident free festival. He said, “your presence reinforced the message of the organizers for a safe festival, and the expectation of our citizens, and clearly served as a deterrent to any anti-social behaviour at the Culturama activities. Your efforts and presence contributed greatly to the fun atmosphere and the good time had by the revelers and by-standers. You helped to ensure a safe festival.”

“I want to encourage all event organizers to add patron safety to their event planning efforts, and make it a top priority so patrons can truly enjoy their events” added Commissioner Queeley.
