Police Investigate drowning at Sea

Basseterre, St. Kitts — Investigators at the Frigate Bay Police station is conducting investigations into the drowning of a visitor to the Federation at Banana Bay on Monday 17th August 2015 sometime after 10:00 AM.

Initial investigations revealed that 50 years old Jeffery Stehle of Texas, USA who was staying in the Federation at Half Moon Bay, along with two (2) other males namely, Zackh Slaon his son in-law of Texas, USA, but living at Monkey Hill and Ross Tiecan, also of USA, but living at Half Moon Bay went snorkelling sometime after 10:00 am. When the three men were about 150 feet away from the shore, they noted that Jeffery Stehle was not in sight. The other two (2) men searched for Jeffery for about 20 minutes in the water, and when they exited the water they found Jeffery lying on the shore unconscious. Efforts were made to revive him, but they were unsuccessful.

Police officers of the Basseterre Police Station, Frigate Bay Police Station and Forensic Services Unit, along with the District Medical Officer reported to the scene and conducted investigations. The District Medical Officer examined the Jeffery Stehle and pronounced him dead.

On Wednesday 19th August 2015 a post mortem examination was performed of the late Jeffery Stehle of Texas, USA by resident Pathologist, Dr. Adrian Nunez. Dr. Adrian Nunez concluded that in his opinion, death was caused by asphyxia due to drowning.

Enquiries are ongoing.
