Prime Minister and Premier ensure thorough investigation of Nevis Fire

ZIZ News — Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas and Premier of Nevis, Honourable Vance Amory have both assured the public that the fire which destroyed the building that housed the NIA’S Treasury, Inland Revenue and VAT departments will be thoroughly investigated.

In referring to the January 17th fire, Prime Minister Douglas said the investigation is well underway.

Similarly, Premier Amory encouraged the public to await the findings of the police force.

He said, “I just want to say to the people of Nevis and the people generally that they should see this as something which the police and the fire services are handling.”

Commissioner of Police, Celvin Walwyn said their initial investigations revealed certain findings.

He said, “The fire in Nevis is actively under investigation. We have sought arson investigation experience from the R.I.M.S which is the Regional Investigative Management System located in Trinidad. They will be sending someone here to assess the damage and to make a determination. But preliminary investigation has led us to believe that it could be one thing but we don’t want to make that comment; we want the experts to come in and tell us 100% this is what it was.”
