Prime Minister Douglas dissolves Parliament
(ZIZ News) — Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas announced on Friday evening, that he has advised the Governor General to dissolve the Parliament with immediate effect.
This follows an emergency sitting which saw the passage of a resolution giving way for His Excellency the Governor General to sign a proclamation which would effect revised electoral boundaries.
In addressing the Nation, Prime Minister Douglas explained that the 2015 Federal Elections will have revised electoral boundaries.
“The draft proclamation with accompanying resolution was submitted to His Excellency the Governor General and a proclamation in the terms of the recommended draft was gazetted today, 16th January 2015. I hereby now announce that I have advised His Excellency the Governor General to dissolve the parliament, the National Assembly, effective today, 16th January 2015, to give effect to the proclamation which has realigned the constituency boundaries of St. Christopher and Nevis,” he said.
Among the constituencies impacted by the adjustments are St. Christopher three through eight and Nevis nine and ten.
Prime Minister Douglas said an election date will be announced later.
