Prime Minister Harris says success stories should be shared to encourage others

(ZIZ News) — The country’s leader is calling for more local heroes to be praised.

Speaking, this week, at the Annual General Meeting of the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Prime Minister, Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris said nationals should give a boost to other nationals.

Commenting on the St. Kitts Music Festival, Dr. Harris said the festival’s focus needs to be redirected in order to promote local stars.

“When you look at the Music Festival which has been going with private sector support for many years and at the end of the day, it’s still all about the imported artists and entertainers and you ask what does that do to local talent? Local enterprise? Shouldn’t it, for over 15 years, be more about us? Be more about the quality of entertainment, genuinely Kittitian and Nevisian entertainment that we could offer,” he questioned.

Prime Minister Harris said musicians and entertainers are not the only heroes however as there are many success stories that need to be told.

“The success stories of ordinary people have to be told so we offer examples that people can emulate. We can point to many people who have, with very little, established themselves and i believe once you begin on this journey of enterprise, of patriotic responsibility, once we begin to hail our heroes, they are going to inspire a lot more people to do well,” he explained.
