Prime Minister Harris Updates on Preparations for National Assembly during Press Conference

TimothyHarris-34(ZIZ News) — Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris addressed a host of issues during a special press conference he hosted on Tuesday afternoon.

Chief among them were updates on preparations for the first sitting of the National Assembly since Federal Elections and government’s reaction to Monday’s Privy Council ruling.

He announced that three major appointments are slated for the first sitting of National Assembly, on Thursday, under the Team Unity government.

He said before Parliament convenes, the throne speech will be delivered by the Governor General’s Deputy, Tapley Seaton Q.C. He added that members of the Assembly will elect a Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

Team Unity’s nominees are Franklyn Brand and Senator Michael Perkins respectively.

Prime Minister Harris also confirmed that the Opposition has nominated Nigel Carty as the third Senator in Parliament.

Prime Minister Harris invited the general public to take part in Thursday’s sitting of the National Assembly and noted that large screens will be set up outside Government Headquarters to broadcast the session.

Meanwhile, Minister of State responsible for Health, the Hon. Wendy Phipps updated the public on the work being done to address health issues at the Basseterre High School.

She noted that another technical group was on the site at that very moment.

Various ministers and other senior government officials were also in attendance to address matters including cyber security, the investigation into the electoral office, police progress in homicide investigations and the land for debt swap.
