(ZIZ News) — The public is being asked to give former prisoners a fair chance on their release from prison.
The call comes from Superintendent of Her Majesty’s Prison, Junie Hodge who says the prison is undertaking rehabilitation programmes for the inmates and the only way to know if they are successful is for the public to give them a chance to prove themselves.
He said, “I must ask the public: when these residents would have left the facility and qualify for whatever position out there and if they approach you for employment, I’m asking you to give them a chance and judge them based on their merit at the time, at this point in time, not on their past. That’s the only way we will know if they are truly rehabilitated.”
The Superintendent says he is working to help the prisoners in any way he can and the public should do so as well.
“I will do all in my power, within the law, to assist those who want to aspire to better themselves so upon leaving the facility, we don’t have them reoccurring because they cannot fit in. If we do not give them a chance, we can’t honestly say they have been rehabilitated,” he stated.
