Project GIGA in 2020

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 7, 2019 (ZIZ News): 2020 is expected to see the start of a boost in the use of the internet in classrooms across St. Kitts.

That’s according to Director Of Education Management Information Systems in the Ministry Of Education Christopher Herbert.

Mr Herbert told ZIZ that a region-wide UNICEF-funded project, called “Project Giga” Will build upon a previous initiative to improve internet speeds in schools by providing supporting infrastructure.

He said there are plans to place equipment such as tablets, laptops and projectors in classrooms but first a pilot project will take place in the coming weeks to determine what are the specific needs of the schools.

He said with the use of new technology in the classrooms teachers are expected to be in a better position to cater their lessons to the individual needs of the students.
