Protect Children This Season

(ZIZ News) — Parents and guardians are being asked to pay extra attention to their children, particularly when attending Carnival events.

That call was made by Child Protection Officer, Naren Maynard during a recent interview with ZIZ News.

“The Department is urging parents and guardians to be vigilant in the supervision of their children during the Carnival season,” he said adding that “The Department of Probation and Child Protection Services wishes to remind parents and guardians to exercise due care and attention regarding their children.”

He also advised parents not to leave children unattended and know where they are at all times.

Maynard, who is attached to the Department of Probation and Child Protection Services, urged residents to report any incident of child abuse or neglect.

He said “Identification should be placed on children throughout the Carnival season. Children should not be taken to events they are not expected to be there beyond 9pm. Report any observation of report and neglect or any parents who seem to be neglecting their children. The number you can call is 662-6833.”

Maynard noted that incidents of child abuse and neglect remain high in St. Kitts and Nevis and called on everyone to do their part to protect the nation’s children.
