Protect Your Homes From Wildfires

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 8th, 2021 (ZIZ News)  As we head into the dry season, The Fire Department is urging residents to take steps to protect their homes from wildfires or bushfires.

Acting Fire Chief Garfield Hodge told ZIZ News that every year around this time there is a marked increase in the number of bushfires reported.

So he’s urging persons living near plots of vegetation to take steps to protect their homes. One suggestion is to make a fire break.

Mr. Hodge said wildfires tend to be more prevalent from March to September and are either caused by human hand or spontaneous combustion due to the day’s heat.

He said the fire department is launching a public awareness campaign to inform the public about wildfires and how to prevent them.
