Amendments to the protection of employment bill, will make new provisions for the termination of employees by an employer.

According to a new section, an employer shall not fire an employee without a valid and fair reason connected with the capacity or conduct of the employee, or with the requirements of the job.

Another new section will make it unfair and unlawful to fire a person for being a member of a trade union or participation in union activities outside working hours or, with the consent of the employer, during working hours.

It also protects employees from being fired if they remove themselves from a work situation that they feel is a serious danger to life or health.
