Pub goes down in Green Valley League opening

(Allistair Edwards)

Sports Page—Monday 26th August 2013–The Green Valley League got into groove on Sunday with two matches on the card. Unfortunately one of those games did not actually play as Spooners could not find a starting seven when Youths were ready and rearing to go well beyond the start time.

Youths are now in line to receive default points from that game.

In the second match Keys came from behind to defeat defending champs Pub 2-1. Trevor “Yacabo” Jeffers converted a penalty in the 45th minute to give Pub the lead.

Keys attacked relentlessly as the older boys from the Pub grew tired. A left sided cross in the 70th met Iwanja Bradley free on the far post and he converted to level the scores.

In the dying moments of the game, Joshua Liburd released a well place chip that caught the Pub goalkeeper stranded. That made the score 2-1 and there was precious little time left on the clock. Keys held on for a surprise victory.

The league continues on Tuesday when Water Works and Little Loxs clash.
