PWD Week of Activities

(ZIZ News) — Minister of Public Infrastructure the Hon. Ian Liburd has launched a week of activities focusing on the work of the Public Works Department.

The week is being held under the theme “Striving For Efficiency In The Maintenance Of Our Public Infrastructure” and among the goals are to raise the profile of the Public Works Department, engage the public in the exchange of information regarding the management of our physical infrastructure, and foster closer working relationships within the pwd and with our stakeholders.

During his address to launch the week, Minister Liburd spoke of the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards of public service.

“The government through the Ministry of Public Infrastructure will continue to ensure that our roads, our drainage systems, our public buildings, our water supply systems, our electrical systems and our (air, land and sea) to wit our transportation systems are designed and maintained in such a manner so as to encourage safety and efficient functioning; thus bringing maximum benefit to us all,” he said.

The minister also commended the department on recent projects including the upgrading of the Dr. Kennedy Simmonds Highway, the resurfacing of several secondary roads throughout the island, and the clearing and rehabilitation of various storm drains.

The PWD week of activities began on Sunday with a church service at St. Peter’s Anglican Church and will include a health walk on Monday, a professional development day on Tuesday an Open Day on Thursday and a Staff Appreciation and Awards Dinner on Friday.
