Rawlins and Easterns to Clash this Weekend

CricketFilePhotoBSports Page — The old village rivalries will be reignited this weekend as the Rawlins Village team engages Easterns (a combination of players from Hickman’s and Zion) in a tape ball cricket match.

The match will be played at the Hard Times playing field in Gingerland on Sunday 28th September and is set to commence at 2pm.

Chief coordinator of the event and Community Liaison Officer in the Gingerland area, Michael “Wise” Herbert, indicated on Thursday, that the match will be the first in a best of three series between the two teams and was geared towards reviving the community spirit of ‘the good old days.’

The second match will be played at Hickman’s on Sunday 5th October and the final match, if necessary, will be played at Hard Times on Sunday 12th October. All matches begin at 2 pm.

Herbert noted that he is in negotiations with a sponsor for the event, but stopped short of revealing the name of the individual. He however noted that there will be a grand trophy up for grabs, along with a monetary prize.

There will also be awards for the man of the match in each game.

The general public is cordially invited out to witness these exciting matches.
