Rawlins takes best of Three Series

CricketFilePhotoBSports Page — According to Liaison Officer for the Gingerland area, Michael WISE Herbert, he is seeking to rekindle the community spirit of the past and sport is one of the avenues that he is using.

In this regard, he organized a three match tape ball Cricket series between the communities of Rawlins and the combined forces of the Hickman’s and Zion communities, or EASTERNS.

The first match was played at Hickman’s on Sunday 28th September and that match was easily won by the Rawlins team.

On Sunday 5th October, both teams met in match two, this time at the Hard times play field.

Watched by a lively and vociferous crowd, the players entertained in a match that ended in a one sided contest.

Rawlins batted first and scored a mammoth 205 for in their allotted 15 overs.

Nevis senior player, Carlon Smithen top scored with 56; R. Chapman scored 52 and Leslie Huggins got 35.

The Easterns team in response could only muster 124 for 9 in their 15 overs: S. Browne top scored with 39; Winston Hobson slammed 23 at the back end of the innings and V. Hendrickson scored 20.

Even though the final game is scheduled for this coming Sunday the 12th of October, the presentation ceremony was conducted at the conclusion of the match, as Rawlins had clinched the series 2 games to nil.

A grand trophy, compliments of Area representative and Premier of Nevis, Hon. Vance Amory, was presented to the Rawlins team and monetary awards compliments of the Poor Man’s Bar in Rawlins, were presented to the outstanding player from each team.

Herbert is promising more matches in the near future which will involve more of the Gingerland communities.
