Quite a number of women were seen taking advantage of the free glucose and blood pressure checks during the event. As the patients waited for their turns, a video presentation about Breast Cancer Awareness, detection and care played on the monitor in the lobby.
The Breast Cancer Awareness event also gave persons the opportunity to receive free breast exams that were conducted at the end of the health checks.
While speaking with ZIZ, Reach For Recovery representative, Kodi Edwards explained why hosting events like this one is so important.
Edwards said the event also helped to seek contributions to help patients that have been diagnosed with cancer.
During our visit, General Practitioner, Dr. Dwain Archibald gave a demonstration of what patients can expect during these visits.
He explained that the patients first go through a session that begins with his one on one discussions about their family history, their lifestyle and other health related topics.
Following those sessions, an exam is conducted and a demonstration of how men and women can locate lumps or abnormalities in their breast tissue.
At the end of the examinations, patients were treated with bright pink t-shirts designed with the breast cancer awareness symbol and gift bags.
