Retired education officials awarded for sterling service at Government House on Thursday March 14 2019

(ZIZ News) – Hundreds gathered at Government House to recognize, honour and applaud the sterling contributions of retired education officials during an awards ceremony on Thursday night.

Persons who retired during the period January 1 2015- December 31 2018 have been recognized and awarded during an awards ceremony and cocktail reception held at Government House on March 14 2019.

The event was held under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency the Governor General Sir S. W. Tapley Seaton GCMG, CVO, QC, JP.

Principals of both public and private schools, education officers, school administrators, teachers, past and present students were also in attendance at the ceremony.

During his welcoming remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, William Vincent Hodge reminded the honourees of their impact and told them that the ceremony was specifically organized to recognise them.

Mr. Hodge then congratulated all the honourees for their contributions to the advancement of the education sector.

Acting Minister of Education, Hon. Lindsay Grant spoke on behalf of Minister of Education. Hon. Shawn Richards who travelled to Abu Dhabi with athletes participating in the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games.

Minister Grant said it is evident that no amount of accolades would ever be enough to express gratitude to all educators who have delivered sterling service in their respective areas.

At the end of the presentations, more than eighty persons received special plaques for their contribution to education and national building.

The Basseterre High School’s Symphonic Orchestra provided musical entertainment.
