Rotary Club of Liamuiga Hosts Installation & 10th Anniversary Awards Banquet

Basseterre, St Kitts (19th July 2013): It was a night of major significance for the members of the Rotary Club of Liamigua (RCL).

On the evening of Friday, 12 July 2013 at the Nirvana Restaurant, Boyds Village in the presence of very special guests, Governor General of St. Kitts & Nevis, His Excellency Sir Edmund Lawrence KCMG, OBE, CSM, JP and Lady Lawrence, the new President and Board of Directors of the RCL officially took up office.

This was signaled by the pinning of the Incoming President, Valentine Hodge, and the other Members of the Board by Past President of the Rotary Club of St. Kitts, Howard McEachrane, who was deputising for Rotary Assistant District Governor for St. Kitts & Nevis, Trevor Blake.

The pinning was preceded by the report by the Outgoing President, Lester Hanley, on his stewardship for the year which ended on 30 June 2013. The Outgoing President was able to point to numerous successes during the past year.

At the end of his report, Rotarian Carol Phillips, member of the RCL since February 2006, was named Rotarian of the Year.

In addition, as part of the RCL’s community service and in recognition of members of the Police Force and the Nursing Profession; Sergeant Donna Henderson was recognised as the RCL Police Officer of the Year 2012/13 and Nurse Eulynis Browne and Nurse Paula Francis shared the Nurse of the Year Award. The honorees each received a plaque and a cash award.

Incoming President Valentine outlined his vision for the year, which included a number of new initiatives mainly geared towards children and young adults.

The Rotary Club of Liamigua took the opportunity on the same evening to host its 10th Anniversary Awards Ceremony to recognize the members who have served as President during the past ten (10) years as well as Charter Members of the Club. The Past Presidents honoured were:

2. Cameron Wilkinson – 2005-2006 – Charter Member
3. Clive Bacchus – 2006-2007 – Charter Member
4. Nesta Seaton-Clarke – 2007-2008 – Charter Member
5. Christopher English – 2008-2009
6. Laverne Caines – 2009-2010 – Charter Member
7. Eustace Warner – 2010-2011 – Charter Member
8. R A Peter Jenkins – 2011-2012 – Charter Member
9. Lester Hanley – 2012-2013

All of these presentations were punctuated by entertainment provided by soloists Mr. O’Neil Simpson and Ms. Rolensha Henry.

The RCL received its Charter on 10 February 2003.

The Club expresses thanks to all those members of the general public and of the business community who have contributed to its success over the past ten (10) years and pledges to redouble its efforts in service to St. Kitts & Nevis and humanity while striving to live up to the 2013/14 Rotary International motto “Engage Rotary, Change Lives”.
