Rotary Club of Liamuiga’s Peace Forum
Basseterre, St. Kitts – The Rotary Club of Liamuiga (RCL) continues to commemorate “A Decade of Service to Our Community” with a Peace Forum on Wednesday March 13th, 2013 at the St. George’s Anglican Church Hall (Old Girls School) starting at 7.00pm.
According to Rotary International’s President, Mr. Sakuji Tanaka, “The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace is one of the cornerstones of the Rotary movement. With Rotary’s active presence in more than 200 countries and geographical areas, our organization has established itself as a world leader in fostering Peace Through Service. We have accomplished a great deal in this area throughout our history, but we must continue to look forward and recognize that the future of Rotary — and the future prospects for world peace — rest with today’s youth.”
“It is against this backdrop that our Club has organized this Peace Forum under the theme Peace Begins With Me,” said Mr. Lester Hanley, RCL President. “Our goal for this forum is to help reduce conflict by first identifying the nature and sources of conflict and then by discussing and proposing conflict-resolution options. We look forward to seeing many members of the general public at this most timely event.”
Peace forum panellists will include members from the Legal Fraternity, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social and Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force. Presentations will also be delivered by Francis Belle, Conflict Resolution Specialist as well as representatives of each high school.
The general public is invited to be a part of this Peace Forum as the Rotary Club of Liamuiga continues its efforts to uplift, empower and develop our communities.
