ZIZ NEWSROOM, Basseterre, July 9, 2012

The Rotary Club of St.Kitts has announced its planned projects for the upcoming year, which cover several areas.

Incoming president Earl Kelly said one of their goals is to reach out to young people who are trying to get a job and give them guidance on entering the world of work.

“Very often, young people walk into offices, some guys with their hair plaited, some have on jeans, and they have not a clue as exactly to how to behave, how to speak in an interview process. We want to help those people,” he said.

Mr Kelly also spoke of a proposed radio and tv programme called “Rotary Health Corner”.

We have decided to develop and eschew the project that will seek to create awareness of and educate citizens about certain diseases that are becoming more prevalent in the federation,” he said. “Such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. And yes guys, we want to do something about men’s health because I am advised that men don’t like to go to see the doctor.”

He says their third project will focus on helping small business persons.

“We believe a project like this will go a long way to create and sustain employment. And of course, you know employment today is a big thing. It is needed. We need to provide jobs and the Rotary Club has decided that we will do whatever we can to encourage people to provide employment for themselves,” he said.

Mr Kelly made these remarks during the Rotary Clubs’ inner to install the new presidents on Saturday night.
