Saddlers Secondary Holds Professional Development Day

Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS): The Saddlers Secondary School has once again taken a proactive approach to enhancing its teacher’s skills in a one-day Professional Development Day on February 04.

The Students’ Teacher: Productive, Understanding and Technology Driven was the theme for their 5th annual workshop.

Chief Education Officer Clarice Cotton stated that teachers should take what they have learnt in the workshop and incorporate it in the classroom and ensure that the students are the centre of every decision and action that they take.

“We hope that having spent the day here today you will really go to back to Saddlers Secondary and be the student’s teacher,” Ms. Cotton stated. “Put the focus on the students when you go back because they are the important ones and they are the reason that you are at the school.”

Minister of Education the Hon. Nigel Carty stated that Professional Development Day provides an opportunity for educator’s self growth by honing their pedagogical skills. The Minster added that as educators, the teachers must agree to “continuous development in order to adequately and truly serve [the] children thereby helping to pave the way for their academic and social success.”

“Your classes must be student centred, engaging and geared towards the holistic development of the person you are trying to teach.”
