ZIZ Sports…May 18, 2010 – The Sandy Point Fruta Falcons will be begin phase 2 of their quest for an unprecedented 5th straight SKABA Junior League title. The tournament began last evening at Basketball City.

The Falcons are once again seeded#1 as they finished as the regular season Champions with the best record in the division. Led by Taslyn “Tazzy” Belboda who is regarded as one of the top young guards in the entire league, both senior and junior, the Falcons seem poised to once again take the Junior title.

The #1 seeded team will face the #4 seeded Blue Devils in the first game of the 3 game semi-finals final four series. According to Blue Devils Head Coach Romel Tobias his team will be relying on the consistent play of guard Stacey Hobson Jr along with Renaldo George and Damion Williams.

The success of the Devils will depend heavily on the trio. It will however be a tall order for the Blue Devils who lost their 2 regular season matches against the Falcons.

In the 2nd semi-finals series the #2 seeded RAMS Hitters will face-off against the #3 seeded Bird Rock Uprisers.

The Hitters are no stranger to the Junior Playoffs as they have been the most consistent team over the last 20 years in the Junior and Senior Divisions playoffs. However unlike in the 90’s when they dominated the Junior Division the Hitters will be facing a much more difficult task of reaching the finals.

The Hitters will depend on talented guard Tyrone Hutchinson along with the sharp-shooting of Ngid Finch. Finch along with forward Ervin Sutton will likely form the core of the Hitters team. The Bird Rock Uprisers also features very talented players in Ian Carr, Justin Williams and guard Xavier Greaux. Carr and Williams are arguably the most dominant frontcourt duo in SKABA. Bird Rock’s success will depend heavily on the two.

“I expect to be in the finals without a doubt as along with Taslyn Belboda the best player in the SKABA Junior league and Travis Buju Rogers and Jason rogers I am confident that we will again be in the finals and going for that 5th straight title ,” said Sean “Bucksy” Crossley Coach of the defending Champions the Sandy Point Fruta Falcons. “I am not discounting the Blue Devils but we have defeated them each time we have played them this season so I don’t expect the final four to be any different,”

The Confident Crossely went on to say “I expect to meet the Bird Rock Uprisers in the finals. I think Hitters will have a tough time beating them. That series will be very exciting though”.

The SKABA Junior league and final four playoffs would be carrying additional significance this year as it will for the basis of selection of players for a national junior team that may be taking part in a Caribbean Basketball Tournament in Trinidad during the summer.
