Sandy Point sweeps Hitters to win 5th straight Junior Title

Sandy Point Guard Taslyn Belboda had 43 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals

ZIZ Sports…June 7 2010 – The Sandy Point Fruta Falcons has done it again. On saturday evening nthey won an unprecedented and historic 5th straight LIME SKABA Junior Division title with an exciting victory over the Rams Hitters.

Hitters got off to a great start led by guards Daryl Lewis and Tyrone Hutchinson who scored 16 of the Hitters 23 first quarter points. Lewis seemed unstoppable as he scored almost at will while Hutchinson made some steady shots in support of Lewis. Sandy Point seemed out of sync as their phenomenal guard Taslyn “Tazzy” Belboda struggled from the field. At the end of the half Sandy Point trailed the Hitters 40-34.

The 2nd Half began with more of the same with Hitters as Daryl Lewis and Tyron Hutchinson continued to carry the Hitters team as they built their 6 point half time lead to as much as 12 point mid-way through the 3rd period. By the end of the 3rd period Hitters held on to a slim 2 point advantage. The 4th period began very well for hitters as they increased their 2 point advantage to 11 points by the 6 minute mark of the final period.

Just when victory seem in sight the Sandy Pointers took over through the exceptional play of St.Kitts-Nevis fastest young sprinter Jason Rogers who score 8 unanswered point to bring the Hitters lead to within 3. The the Junior League’s most talented and dominant player Taslyn “Tazzy” Belboda took over as the Hitters guard defense was weakened when the Sandy Point teams consistent penetration of the Hitters defense forced Hitters guard Tyron Hutchinson to committ his 5th foul and had to leave the game. This was a huge blow to Hitters and Sandy Point took complete control of the game after that point. Belboda finally got his swagger back and in the final 3 minutes showed why he is head and shoulders above any other player in the Junior league. He literally carried the Sandy Point falcons on his shoulders for the final 3 minutes after his teammate Jason Rogers got them back into the game with a spectacualr 8 point run midway in the 4th quarter.

The game ended with Sandy Point taking the lead for the first time in the game with less than a minute to go and they maintained that lead until the final whistle . The Sandy Point Fruta Falcons won the game and clinched the series with a clean sweep ober the Hitters to win their 5th straight title 91-89.

Taslyn Belboda led both teams in points, assists and steals with a phenomenal 43 pts, 5 rebs, 6 assists, 5 steals. He was supported well by Jason Rogers with 15 pts, 5 rebs and 5 steals and Travis Rogers with 12 points.

Daryl Lewis and Tyron Hutchinson led Hitters with 28 and 18 points respectively with Nrobi Robin and Nagid Finch combining for 22 points.

The Junior League MVP has yet to be announced but it would be hard for anyone but Taslyn Belboda who led the League in scoring averaging 32 plus points per game and assists with 6 per game to be awarded the prize.
