Scotiabankers Give Back to Education

Four primary schools receive donations from staff of Scotiabank’s Bird Rock and Fort Street branches

ST. KITTS AND NEVIS, July 11 2013- Four primary schools in St. Kitts are now in a better financial position to carry out their programmes in the next school year. The Edgar T. Morris, Estridge, Saddlers and Newton Ground primary schools each recently received donations of EC$ 2,500.00 from the staff of the Bird Rock Branch of Scotiabank in St. Kitts.

The funds were raised through the efforts of the staff of the Bird Rock and Fort Street branches who held their annual car wash in April. The money they raised was then matched by Scotiabank through its Bright Future program.

Manager of Scotiabank’s Bird Rock branch Eileen Bennett said that in previous years, similar donations were made to primary schools in the Basseterre area, so this year they decided to focus on rural primary schools.

Ms. Bennett said the donations underscored the Bank’s continued commitment to education and said it was an “immense pleasure” to be able to make the presentations once again. She thanked the Bank for so willingly matching the funds raised by staff.

The presentations were made on the afternoon of 18th June 2013, by a group of ten employees of the Bird Rock Branch. The employees have already dedicated themselves to increasing their fund raising efforts in 2014.
