Season of Goodwill continues into 2014 at the Children’s Home

St. Kitts–While the Federation recovers from another successful Holiday Season the St Christopher Children’s Home still has something to celebrate.

“Our Christmas and New Year were extra special this year” Margaret Stevens the Administrator of the Children’s Home explained “On top of all the magnificent gifts that were delivered for the children – we received all the materials that we so badly needed for our new roof”

The Children’s Home building in Cardin Avenue was constructed in the 1950’s and has over time provided a shelter for literally hundreds of needy youngsters but the fabric of the home has suffered over time like any building and especially one that houses so many lively children coming and going.

“At Christmas time in particular the children are remembered by the community and we received many thoughtful gifts including turkeys and ham. But it is the behind the scenes donations that are particularly welcome and these are the ones that ensure we are able to care for the children in a safe and healthy environment.  The roof was beginning to resemble a leaky sieve but now with the help of our most generous benefactors we will be able to face whatever 2014 holds with strong foundations” said Margaret.

“Our other good news is that following the extraordinary generosity of all those volunteers, participants and sponsors of our 2013 Fun Run and Walk, we have been able to use some of the funds to repaint the house. There’s nothing like a fresh coat of paint to lift the spirits and I hope that the “new look” will help to install a sense of pride in the children for their smart premises and this in turn may help them to learn respect and appreciate their surroundings.” she continued.

“We cannot stress enough how important the support of the general public is to the continued operation of the home” said Sebastian Mottram  – Chairman “Bluntly put, without their generosity we would not have a home at all.  I think that this is an auspicious start to the year and I am looking forward to continuing our programme of upgrades to the buildings and grounds.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who continues to help us here with gifts of food, clothes, time, money and materials large and small – it really does all count – thank you so much”.

About the St. Christopher Children’s Home

For more than 70 years the St Christopher Children’s Home has been providing shelter food clothing and healthcare to children in need.  It is a vital sanctuary for children identified by the Social Services as at risk in the community.  It is a refuge offering security and a sense of belonging for those who most need it but most of all it is “home”.
