Second Port Zante pier is expected to double cruise ship passengers

Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) — A second pier at St. Kitts’ Port Zante is expected to double the number of cruise ship visitors, Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has disclosed.

“Combined with the other existing port facilities, the new pier will give our Federation the capacity to comfortably handle more than 1.5 million cruise ship passengers per year,” Prime Minister Douglas told a mammoth crowd and scores of visiting diplomats at the Independence Ceremonial Parade at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium.

Dr. Douglas disclosed that the upcoming 2014/2015 Cruise Ship Season could realise a goal of one million cruise ship passengers.

“At the same time, we intend to become a leading sub-regional centre for private jets and luxury travelers through the operation of Yu Lounge &Private Jet Terminal that was recently constructed at the R L Bradshaw International Airport,” he said.

He also said that the construction of a marina at Christophe Harbour will help to establish the Federation as a haven for luxury yachts, and for their wealthy owners.
