Seniors Fun and Sports Day still on

Sports Page — Coordinator at the Seniors’ division on Nevis, Mrs. Garcia Hendrickson, on Thursday assured the general public on nevis that the grand fun and sports day being proposed for the seniors on the island, is still very much on.

The event will be one of the major activities being planned for the seniors in their special month of October which is designated as the ‘month of older persons.’

The grand event will be hosted at the ET Willet Park on Thursday 15th October.

The seniors will compete and or participate in short distance fun races; thread the needle; tug of war; short relays; walking backward and forward and many more ‘senior friendly’ events.

Age categories will cater for 60 to 70 years; 70 to 80 and 81 and over. However, younger, interested individuals will be allowed to participate in several exhibition events.

Interested persons can register at the Social Services Department located next to the ET Willet Park.

Mrs. Hendrickson stressed that registration is crucial because even though there is no registration fee, the senior athletes will have to include a note of permission for them to participate from their doctor.

The seniors are taking this event so seriously that they will commence training sessions at the ET willet park with national trainer Masefield Nisbett at 10 am on Tuesday 15th September and every Wednesday thereafter, leading up to the big event.

Depending on the success of the inaugural event, Mrs. Hendrickson noted that it will become an annual affair.
